AUSTIN – The Texas Young Democrats have added a huge name as a speaker at their upcoming state convention on Monday.
Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was announced as a speaker at the 2019 Texas Young Democrats State Convention. The convention runs from May 17-19 at the Austin Marriott South Hotel.
In 2018, Congresswoman Omar was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first naturalized citizen form Africa and one of the first two Muslim women, along with Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, to serve in Congress.
Texas Young Democrats (TYD) is an autonomous organization empowering the next generation of organizers, activists, and leaders. Founded in 1932, TYD is composed of individuals aged 14 through 40 who believe in Democratic values. – CBS News Austin
