On Friday, July 26, Houston’s rising show promoter Mousumi Banerjee of MB Entertainment presented Richa Sharma Live-in-Concert at the Stafford Centre in Stafford. Richa Sharma, the reigning Sufi Queen of India was in Houston as part of her musical tour titled ‘Sajda’. The show was a sellout and Richa mesmerized her audience with her soul stirring voice presenting some of her hits.
It was yet another success for MB Entertainment following their recent Javed Ali show on May 3. Promoter Banerjee said that she was inspired to bring this show in Houston due to the support of the local community and friends who had been asking her about her next show. “I feel blessed and honored to get such feedbacks and to be supported by the community,” she said. Karl Kalra the National Sponsor of Sajda was clearly impressed by Mousumi as he expressed that he was not sure whether the show would be possible in a short time but was very grateful to MB Entertainment for making the show possible within five weeks.
The evening concert opened with the vibrant Abiya Olivia Malhotra, local singer and actress and Pragya Sen, former beauty queen both serving as emcees. The enthralling opening performance by Paras Mann, a well-known singer from Punjab, set the mood for the evening as the audience enjoyed his melodious voice. Richa Sharma sang few duets with Paras Maan. The award winning song Sajda from the movie ‘My Name is Khan’ was thoroughly enjoyable. Richa sang her other hits including: Dil mile bina hi toot gaye from Om Shanti Om, Baghon ke har phool ko apna samjhe baghban from the film Baghban, Maahi ve from the film Kaante, Rabba. Richa’s soul stirring ghazals like Aaj Jaane ki zid na karo moved the audience. Richa Sharma continued with her item numbers like Billo Rani from the film Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal had energized the audience and had them asking for more.During the show, City of Stafford Mayor, Leonard Scarcella, presented event organizer Mousumi with a proclamation of recognition for her work as a promoter of art and culture. Mousumi later thanked the audience, “I am grateful to you all and it is my promise that I will bring more entertainment in the coming years. Thank you so much for your love and support”. She also thanked her Grand sponsors: Dr. Ashima and Anand Chauhan, Omar Saeed of Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management. Mousumi also thanks Ritu Selects LLC – India inspired Couture for styling and DecoArt for decoration. Food sponsors were Udipi Cafe Houston, Savoy Restaurant. Karl Karla, national sponsor of Sajda was also recognized and thanked by the promoter. Local media partners were given an opportunity to meet the celebrity singer at an earlier Meet & Greet held on Thursday, July 25 at the Hilton Hotel.
During the Meet & Greet, Richa spoke on how she kept her focus on music and the disciple of her practice routine. During the Q & A she spoke candidly about reality shows and said she they were not ‘real’ and it bothered her. She is currently a judge on one of them. Known for her versatility in rendering classical, Sufi ghazals, or songs for Bollywood films, Richa has fan following across all strata of music lovers. She credits her success to dedication and hard work with hours of practice. She also mentioned that having the right break needs a bit of luck and support which she is amply blessed with.
The show was well organized and went off smoothly entertaining all ages. Richa Sharma touched everyone’s soul and the audience was in awe of her magical performance.
