SUGAR LAND – Medinet Family Care Clinic, a thriving medical practice of Bharat Gandhi, MD with over 30 years of experience in the field of internal medicine, had a Grand Opening of its second location in Sugar Land on Sunday, September 8, 2019. It was a most auspicious moment for Dr. Gandhi and his wife Falguni Gandhi, as their older daughter Priya Gandhi, MD MPH was now joining her father at Medinet. Younger daughter Puja Gandhi, MD now in her second year internal medicine residency at UT Houston, McGovern, is not far behind and plans on joining her father and sister when she completes her studies. For the Gandhis, their hard work and dedication had come full circle with their two daughters deciding to work alongside their father.
“We are very close knit family; I think it came very naturally that I would be part of their family business and be able to serve community needs,” Dr. Priya shared. “I think primary care is something that we need here in this area in Texas. In general, there’s a big shortage of primary care physicians. I was always interested in public health and did my Masters in Primary Health, so it was the choice for me and I didn’t think about other specialties,” she asserted.
Dr. Priya Gandhi began her professional education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in both human biology and anthropology. After graduation, Dr. Gandhi moved to Texas and enrolled at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Gandhi excelled in the program and completed a dual degree, earning her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health (MPH) simultaneously. She also completed training in internal medicine at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.
Together, the doctors will be treating patients of all ages, from children to senior citizens along with their Medinet team.
The sprawling, new facility is strategically located on Grand Parkway near Hwy 59 Southwest Freeway, and is similar in its layout and services to its first location on Hwy 6 North and Bissonnet. Both clinics provide urgent care: X-rays, lab work, bone density, ABI, 2D Echo, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, well-woman exams, along with everything related to internal medicine and urgent care, and for more urgent issues that require treatment within 24 hours. Even minor emergencies like burns, suturing, burns, immigration physicals, vaccinations, pediatrics and much more are provided at these two locations.
Falguni Gandhi is an Ayurveda expert, graduated from Bombay University, and has been the backbone of the Gandhi family and their business. She is an active community leader and served as the President of India Culture Center. Family is the cornerstone, she explained, and stated that they always planned vacations together. “Preventive medicine is the way to go. I’m glad that both our daughters have chosen Internal care,” she said. Falguni is detailed oriented and brings much experience from managing two clinics for nine years: one Hwy 6 N and one on Hwy 529 (for a few years) before opening the one in Sugar Land, where they live. She gave a short talk on the basics of Ayurveda followed by a quick questionnaire by the participants.
Although the clinic was opened five weeks prior, the Grand Opening was meticulously planned with the ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Sugar Land Councilman Himesh Gandhi, who later presented a Proclamation. The entire place wore a festive look with balloons and colorful tents, auto rickshaws in the parking area, where music organized by Masala Radio boomed, as guests treated themselves to popular Indian street foods; bhel puri and pani puri catered by Chaupati Chat Sugar Land. Besides that, free flu shots, free mini consultations and free bone density testing were conducted. About 50 flu shot vouchers were given to attendees on the occasion. Sudhir Mathuria of Health Life 360 and Voice of Asia weekly columnist was also available to provide information on medical insurance.
Medinet Family Care Clinic was founded in 1997 on the premise that everyone deserves quality, comprehensive, and compassionate medical care. Dr. Bharat Gandhi and Dr. Priya Gandhi are both committed to serving the community. Equally dedicated is their staff that includes Physician’s Assistant Supreet Kaur, Nurse Practitioners Bllgha Noor and Tina George and a team of admin staff who will be serving alongside the doctors at the facilities.
