Hanmi CEO C. G. Kum and Regional Chief Banking Officer Mohammad Tariq hosted the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the branch which opened in December 2018.
“Houston-Chinatown branch is a strategically important branch that will enable us to actively market our products and services in the Houston region. We hope to grow together with the community,” he said in his welcoming remark.
“I refer to this branch as Texas headquarters of Hanmi Bank because of the business opportunities and our ongoing focus, and an emphasis on the investment that we are going to make in Houston and Dallas,” Kum said.
About 150 guests including VIP customers and the community leaders from Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and South Asian communities attended the event to celebrate the grand opening, which was followed by reception. “We have been getting very positive response from local areas,” Tariq said about the new branch. “This is are best location,” having worked here for many years and knowing the community well. “I left Chinatown five years ago and always wanted to come back,” he added. “We have good, selective products, and are loan rates are better than others. We don’t want to create negative competition; our motive is to give special rates on CDs, on saving or commercial account, so they make us their bank of choice,” he added.
Hanmi Bank plans to open more branches in Houston, as there is greater potential for commercial loans. Hanmi specializes in commercial real estate, commercial, SBA, healthcare, equipment leasing, and trade finance lending to small and middle market businesses.
