HOUSTON – On Thursday, November 29, The Asian Chamber of Commerce (ACC) held its Monthly Meeting with a Holiday Networking Luncheon at the Hess Club.
Wes Weaver, Outgoing Board Chair, welcomed the gathering and thanked the board for their support in conducting the chamber’s operations. He later introduced and welcomed the incoming Board Chair Bin Yu.
Milton Young, President, ACC gave an overview of 2018. In his report he mentioned about his participation in the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (White House AAPI) National Leadership summit early November and said that plans were to bring a regional summit to Houston early next year as part of the Asian American Business Day and the ACC is expected to be heavily involved in developing agenda for the program. ACC also supported the Asian American Journal Associations’ National Convention held here he said. He observed that is a lot more of the Asian American organizations are choosing Houston as a site for their National conventions which is a boost to business community he added. The ACC participated in the All Texas Asian American Congress Meeting in Austin, the first one in five years, “The meeting was to start working together to meet with the legislature coming up in February next year,” Young said. The meet will be at the Asian American Business Day at the Texas legislature in 2019.
Young also mentioned about ACC’s participation in the Japan-Texas Economic Summit that was led successfully by Kenneth Li. An exclusive free tour of the Daikin Technology Park on Sep. 27 was also a hit. The Energy Entrepreneur luncheon on October 10th sponsored by Shell had a distinguished panel of executives from Shell, Fluor and BP discussing how to do business with large companies. This was followed by ACC’s glamorous Red Ball Gala on October 26th at the Royal Sonesta Hotel with the theme “Celebrating the Spirit of Entrepreneurship”.
Locally, the ACC was very involved in increasing the voter registration in Texas for the November 6, 2018 election. The International Import Expo 2018 Shanghai was in November from 5-10 and the Houston Construction Conference – Raindrop Turkish House will be on Dec. 3rd, young informed.
George Kurisky, Jr conducted the Investiture of the Board Members: Bin Yu, Ning Kang, Kenneth Li and Paul Gor.
Incoming Chir Bin Yu in his message said, “This honor is of high respect, responsibility and accountability.” He recognized the Board members and welcomed the new members on the occasion. His focus would be on bringing value to members, corporate focus and to empower members. He said the ACC was beyond bridging Asian businesses to main stream: to make Asian businesses bigger.
